EASTSIDE AT LOGANVILLE TAKES DELIVERY OF MRI MACHINE

April 15, 2010 - Emory Eastside at Loganville has taken delivery of the all-digital imaging equipment worth roughly $2M.  Of special significance was the delivery and installation of the MRI magnet, the first in Loganville and its surrounding areas.

On Monday, April 5th, the magnet was delivered to the state-of-the art imaging center on Highway 81 South, near Tara Commons.  This marked the end of planning and the beginning of implementation.  After three years – from acquiring a Certificate of Need to engineering assessments and architectural renderings; from building alterations for the construction of the needed MRI to leaving an “opening” of an exterior wall, the process has been long, but the results will be dramatic.

The scheduled delivery and installation also took considerable planning.  With an installation where inches matter – nothing was left to change.  Along with two trucks of equipment and crane – needed to lift the seven-plus ton from a semi-truck with a massive crane piece of equipment, there were several professionals, including a master rigger to provide a safe process.  After two hours of great care and precision, the mammoth piece of machinery was maneuvered into its new home at Emory Eastside at Loganville.

Three years in the planning and construction costs and machinery expenditures nearing the $3 million mark – this nod to technology carries a healthy price tag but it represents a priceless piece of technology.  Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a non-invasive, painless process that provides images of the inside of the human body to highlight changes in living tissues – an invaluable tool in diagnosis.

On the arrival of Loganville’s MRI, Chief Operating Officer, Dustin Greene, said “Delivery of the imaging equipment in Loganville represents a milestone for the community and for Emory Eastside.  The Loganville community will soon have access to the quality healthcare they deserve, close to home.”

The all-digital imaging services offered include MRI, CT, Mammography, X-Ray, Ultrasound, and Bone Density.  Additionally, the center will be staffed by Emory Eastside’s board certified radiologists.

The imaging center expects to begin seeing patients Monday, April 26th and will host a community grand opening celebration on Saturday, May 1st.
